After studies in Gerontology at George Brown College and Sociology in Education at University of Toronto she paused on her path and embraced motherhood. She began intermittently to pursue her craft in between further studies in the doctoral program of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education, completed in 2004.
Miriam has curated shows in various venues; been an Art Specialist Instructor with the TDSB’s “After School Program”. Miriam has exhibited in group and solo shows at; Merton Gallery, Orchardview Library Skylight Gallery; the Joseph Carrier Gallery; and Neilsen Park Creative Center with Toronto Watercolour Society. Miriam is an international, national and provincial presenter of art workshops; lecturer on arts integration and entrepreneurship.
Miriam has taught Art, Sociology, Children’s Literature and History of Social Policy in the college system in Ontario for over 14 years.
She was recognized with an Award of Merit for her work in En Plein Air titled Le Marais. A watercolour painting in a peer-juried show with Toronto Watercolour Society at Neilsen Park Creative Center.
Miriam incorporates elements of nature and textures of found items into paintings and collage work.
She has touched many people’s lives with her art. Her High School experience of being a seedling at Project SEED in Toronto prepared her well for the path less travelled by others.
Miriam designed highly interactive, integrated arts curriculum for intermediate grades of 4, 5, and 6; as well as college level students that included the performing arts; music and visual arts through arts expression.
In Boston, Massachusetts she met with Denny Wolfe, who worked with Howard Gardner, in the educational arts Project Zero, at Harvard University. Project Zero is reflected in her own doctoral research that examined; critiqued and made recommendations for the practice of arts education at the Toronto District School Board. Project Zero greatly influenced her Doctoral Thesis as well as her future teaching.
Recently, Miriam exhibited both with The Doors Open Celebration, Neilsen Park Creative Centre, Etobicoke and “The Grange” Heritage Museum in Mississauga, Ontario.
Her art work is for sale from her studio and she will accept commissions for her art work, as well.
